Feed little ones fish

Parents, do your babies a favour and include fish in their diet. Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows regular fish consumption in their first year could reduce the risk of allergic disease up to the age of 12. Swedish researchers studied the diets of 3 285 children aged one, two, four, eight and 12.

They found babies who ate fish regularly (as little as two to three times a month) had 22 per cent less chance of developing eczema and 26 per cent less chance of suffering from hay fever than those who didn’t.

But be sure to choose sustainable options from the healthiest and most well-managed populations. These species can handle current fishing pressure, or are farmed in a manner that does not harm the environment.
