The #FeesMustFall protest is back and it has disrupted registration at the University of the Witwatersrand today.

The protest broke at the Senate House and Hall 29 where students were expected to register today. The university Student Representative Council (SRC) said they acknowledge the 0% increment commitment made by the state and the commitment towards the formation of the task team on free education, but the “fight has not yet been won”.

Their demands include debt clearance, free registration, a commitment by the university and the government on a road map towards the realisation of free education, and implementation of all commitments made by the university the government last year. “The harsh reality is that many of our students will not be able to benefit from these commitments due to many harsh realities, one of which is the large sums of outstanding fees (student debts) that student are faced with,” the SRC said in a statement.
