In a continuation of xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in KwaZulu-Natal, two Somali nationals have been critically injured in a petrol bomb attack on Friday night.

Police have reported that the residents of W Section in Umlazi were admitted to hospital after a shop was engulfed by the flames caused by the attack.

The attack follows widespread looting of shops owned by foreign nationals in the township and in the province.

It has been reported that 1 000 people from other African countries outside of South Africa have been driven out of their homes and have sought refuge at police stations and an unnamed Durban sports ground.

The two victims have been admitted to Prince M'Shiyeni Memorial Hospital for care.
