Kabelo Motsamai, better known as Prince Kaybee shares his story of rags to riches and how he overcame his battles after finding Christ and being born again.

His father had 36 children and being the youngest child and the only child from his mother’s side, Prince Kaybee was faced with a lot of issues growing up. He became rebellious at a young age and ended up dropping out of high school in grade 11.

While still in high school, Prince Kaybee taught himself how to DJ and produce music after seeing his English his teacher, who happened to be ‘sushi King’ Kenny Kunene.

After leaving school, he felt he was becoming a burden at home, he had made a girl pregnant and the reality of life kicked in. Struggling to cope, he packed his bags and moved out of home and stayed at friend’s homes. That became too much for his friends and he found himself living on the streets in Bloemfontein with no shelter, no food and only his DJ and producing talent.

He hopped from club to club looking for a job until he found a residency at Nigerian owned club. “I made just enough money to buy food but not enough to pay rent, ” says Prince Kaybee. “While trying to make things work at the club, I met a girl who basically took me in and helped me get my life together.”

By this time, he could afford to buy himself a laptop to practice DJing and producing, send some money to his mother and enter Ding competitions. “I entered a DJ competition on SABC1 which was the height of my career and since then I have never looked back. I met people who helped me get ahead,” he said.

“I did not drink or smoke and in 2013 I had a friend, who is currently my booking agent. He took me to his church and that was when I accepted Christ as my lord and savior. Since then, I put God first and I am at my happiest,” he said.

“People love and appreciate my music, I am getting awards and currently my album 'Better Days' has just gone Gold and I am so grateful to the people who believed in me,” he added.

He says all of this has been because of is faith and discipline.
