Given Mukwevho quit school after he completed Grade 6, and he filled the gap with a new life of crime.

He had his first taste of prison in December 1996, after he was caught stealing a pair of trousers from a clothing store.

Gone was the freedom of the streets, as Given was forced to adjust to a life of incarceration.

While in prison, Given's love of reading later translated into an interest in writing.
