Parents in Gauteng have until midnight tonight to use the new online application and placement system

initiated by the Gauteng Department of Education to make sure their children have a place in school next year.

Once “pumpkin” hour passes, the online application portal will shut down and no applications will be processed at the beginning of the 2017 academic year.

The Department launched the online application system  for the 2017 academic year from 1 April to 1 1 June, targeting grades one and eight learners.

According to the Department, During this period over 200 000 parents applied online.

Of these, just over 110 000 applied for Grade one and about 90 000 applied for Grade eight. A further 18 000 were for other grades.

Throughout the year, parents were continuously urged to confirm offers received by SMS from their desired schools or risk forfeiting their children’s spot at the particular school in 2017.

Currently, there are about 123 000 children who are yet to be placed.
