There will be no more Generations as from the 1st of October 2014. This comes after 16 actors’ contracts were terminated in August by MMSV Productions which produces the blockbuster soapie Generations.

This was revealed by SABC’s spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago on Friday.

Kganyago said instead of Generations at 8pm weekdays, viewers will watch Season 3 of Skeem Saam which was changed from a drama series into a soapie, just few months ago.

He said Generations will take a break for two months while the producers are revamping the soapie.

“We are dealing with our schedules while waiting for the production house to work on this regarding the soapie.

We only have a contract with them and they have to produce,” he said.

Kganyago further revealed that even though they have a contract with MMSV, they are in the dark on whether the old actors will be replaced.

“That depends on the production house.” Kganyago said even though the change might affect their ratings. He was adamant that viewers will get used to it.

“The only challenge is if Skeem Saam gives us more viewers and then Generations comes back, but we will see,” reveals Kganyago.

On the other hand, Generations producer, Mfundi Vundla has vowed that he will not take the fired actors back. And as a result, Cosatu urged viewers to boycott the popular soapie in support of the fired actors.

Over the weekend, the actors attended President Jacob Zuma’s nephew, Khulubuse Zuma’s wedding and there were speculations making rounds that their attendance was also to urge the president, who attended the wedding, to intervene.

The Generations repeat slot on SABC 3 at 10:30 will be replaced by Muvhango.
