She's in tears as she holds the microphone. Top businesswoman and wedding planner Glory Maseepe is so overcome with emotion that words just can’t come out of her mouth.

But, as a song bursts out of the blaring music speakers, she composes herself and continues with her speech.

“I really don’t know where to start. This is a very emotional moment for me. I sat here in these very same grounds as a learner some years ago,” Glory says in a hoarse voice.

It’s here at Khudu Tseke Primary in the rural village of Ga-Masemola that the top wedding planner was educated, and she is here to give back to the community in the form of school shoes.

“We have never seen anything like this. Yes we have had donations before but nothing amounts to this. Glory has really outdone herself. The school is going to benefit tremendously due to her generous offer,” says School Principal Mashiane Mmammotjere.

An elated Mmammotjere adds that the 150 pairs of shoes will go a long way towards alleviating the plight of the learners here, who mostly come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“Most of our learners come from poor families. When Glory came with the idea I thought she was playing a prank on us. We wish there can be more Good Samaritans like her,” says Mmammotjere.

Her sentiments are echoed by an emotional former school principal, Mabalane Motuku.

“I taught Glory and she has always been a respectful child. But I never expected that she would remember her former school in this way. Back in the days we used to conduct our teaching lessons from under the trees, as we did not have any facilities. Her late mother was a teacher here and I am sure wherever she is she is looking down on her with pride,” says Motuku.
