The slain girlfriend of former Jozi FM DJ Donald Sebolai threatened to tarnish his image, the High Court sitting at Palm Ridge heard on Tuesday.

Sebolai testified that Dolly Tshabalala had insulted and assaulted him several times and had involved the police in their disputes on more than one occasion.

He said Tshabalala had a tendency to threaten him with "I will show you" if he refused to take her somewhere.

She would scream and say people would think he was assaulting her, Sebolai told the court.

"That meant I had to obey and submit to her needs to avoid any quarrels."

Sebolai is on trial for Tshabalala's murder. Her body was found in his bed at a flat in Soweto in June last year, with stab wounds on her thighs and vagina.

Sebolai has pleaded not guilty.

The couple's sex life was also put under the spotlight on Tuesday.

"Our sex life was enjoyable," Sebolai said through an interpreter.

Asked how often they were intimate, Sebolai said: "On Tuesdays and Thursdays she went to school, so I would say five times a week."

He disputed the testimony of a police officer who told the court Sebolai had insulted Tshabalala by saying she had a large vagina.

"I have never said anything like that. I was given birth to by a woman. How could I ever say anything like that?" he replied. He told the court he loved Tshabalala and never criticised her body.

"I used to advise her of certain foods she should be eating. I would tell her she should watch what she is eating because she could end up getting certain illnesses. It went as far as me sometimes taking the time to cook for her," he said.

The case continues.
