Growing a beard is an adventure that can be a surprising process of self-discovery.

It’s Movember and some of you may be growing a moustache, or maybe a full beard. Growing a beard is an adventure that can be a surprising process of self-discovery.  Here are some tips on caring for that manly hair.

  • Just like your hair, wash and shampoo your beard regularly. A mild shampoo is easier on your skin.
  • You may use a conditioner. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. Failure to rinse sufficiently may result in flaking. Because beard hairs are so coarse, conditioners will have less effect on the beard than on the hair on your head.  A conditioner will still help make your beard feel softer.
  • Gently pat and wipe dry your bear.  Blow drying can be harsh on your skin.
  • Comb your beard and moustache with a wide-toothed comb to remove tangles. Optionally, you can use a brush.
  • Add moisture to your beard. Try to avoid petroleum oils but go for products with natural ingredients, like coconut oil and nuts. You can also use a moisturizing lotion or other skin-care products that are used to relieve itching.
