South african musicians such as Don Laka have been on what seemed like a life-long plight to have local music played on radio stations more than American music that they viewed as being forcefully fed to the masses. On Wednesday 11 MAY 2016 SABC's Chief Operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng announced that the SABC will play 90% local music across all their radio stations. He added that the The South African Broadcasting Corporation will also take necessary measures to make sure that local television content is also played fairly, "It is in this context that the decision on local music will ensure that the SABC fully reflects the various styles of local music on offer", said Motsoeneng.
