“I’m happy to be back, and I’m back from exile with a bang.” These were the words of the outspoken and controversial SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Speaking at a press conference held to announce the public broadcaster’s new programme schedules, Hlaudi told journalists that he believes “that management within the corporation should reflect diversity” and that the SABC’s executives are “too black and do not reflect the rainbow nation that we are as a country”.

Throughout his speech, the embattled COO cracked jokes.

The conference revealed that the scheduled changes include a new time slot for Live AMP – now on Fridays 7.30 pm instead of 9 pm, and it will now be only 24 minutes long. Live AMP’s followed by another music show, Urban Music Experience. The Generations: The Legacy omnibus moves from 10 am to 11 am as from Saturday 13 February.

Gospel Gold moves to 9 am from Sunday 14 February, with a new co-host Thabiso Kevin Mokhethi. Meanwhile, season 5 of Fan Base will not only have a new slot, but a new co-presenter, too. Akhumzi Jezile will join Mxolisi  Zuluboy Majozi in hosting the show in its new time slot on Fridays at 6 pm.

Hlaudi sure is ringing in the changes, and is certainly “back with a bang”.
