Gospel sensation Andile kaMajola overcame a childhood of poverty and abuse. He tells us how dealing with the pain made him stronger.

Andile kaMajola ushers into his lounge.

Large sliding doors open out onto the garden so the room appears to flow onto the wooden deck and swimming pool area.

We can see golfers putting for a birdie, or maybe a bogey, at a hole a spitting distance from where we sit.

It's a scene of green splendour.

Andile is an award-winning gospel musician and pastor at All Nations Cathedral International Church in Durban.

He is one of the most popular gospel singers in the province: his large following means he can easily fill the city's International Conference Centre, which has standing capacity for 9 000 people.

Things weren't always this good for Andile.

He opens up about his difficult upbringing in a rural area.
