A toy library has been officially opened at Kwesine hostel in Katlehong

, east of Johannesburg. This follows the Gauteng Premier, David Makhura’s call for the establishment of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre at the hostel.

The need for the library was identified during the Ntirhisano Roadshow programme aimed at unlocking service delivery challenges throughout the province. Gauteng MEC for Social Development Molebatsi Bopape emphasised that the facility is equipped with colourful toys and books that will stimulate the children’s cognitive development.

The hostel Induna Bongani Ndlovu expressed appreciation, saying the children at the hostel will now spend their early childhood years learning and growing towards becoming future leaders instead of wondering around during the day.

The library will accommodate children between the ages of two and six and it will operate from 09:00 and 15:00 weekdays.
