How to handle a disciplinary hearing

FACING a disciplinary hearing can be terrifying, as Connie Ngwenya* from Joburg discovered after her employees called

a hearing to discuss her poor job performance a year ago.

Connie (26), who does telephone marketing, was going through a difficult time in her private life and lost focus at work.

“I knew I hadn’t been meeting targets and was rude to clients at times but I couldn’t seem to do anything about my behaviour," she explains.

When she started coming to work later and later and ignoring the warnings from her line manager, her employers finally had enough.

They summoned Connie to a disciplinary hearing.
