Bonga Dlamini opens up about his shock exit from Uzalo, quitting acting and moving into the business field

Heads turn as he drives his cream Jeep Wrangler, looking dashing in black jeans, a T-shirt, olivegreen jacket and a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses. He could be mistaken for a Hollywood celebrity ducking and diving from the lenses of the paparazzi, but Bonga Dlamini (30) insists he’s nothing like that.

He’d prefer to be called a talented actor who simply enjoys what he does. Then he surprises us by jokingly saying: “I am jobless right now, but I don’t look jobless, do I?” It’s been more than six months since he was given the boot by SABC1’s drama series Uzalo and people still ask him why he left the popular show, but it turns out he didn’t leave voluntarily – he was shown the door.

“I have never left any show willingly,” he tells us. “I got a call from the company saying my services were no longer required. It wasn’t my decision.”
