Penny left Metro FM in 2009

Media personality Penny Lebyane says that during her time in radio particularly when she was at Metro FM, she never got the big shows like the breakfast show or drive time because of sexism and marginalization.

Speaking to Anele Mdoda on Real Talk with Anele, Penny said when she was at the station she experienced things but when they were happening she didn't know what they were.

"I had no idea what sexism, marginalization and all of those things meant, but I experienced all of those things without the context of what they are. I only realized in hindsight what those things were" she told Anele.

Penny added that she knows that there times that she knows she didn't get shows because she was a woman and also because of her outspoken nature.

"I didn't get shows because I wasn't sucking up to people and at times also because I was too confident. At that time when these things happened I didn't know but only after I realized why things happened the way they did," she added.

after some contractual disputes, she currently hosts ETV's morning TV show Sunrise.

Asked if she will ever go back to radio Penny said; "No I won't go back, unless its the right offer at the right time, perhaps I will think about it."
