Actress Andrea Dondolo opens her door to us, and shares how staying in touch with her roots has brought her true happiness

Andrea Dondolo opened her Khayelitsha home to us, allowing us time to sit and catch up with her.

The 30-something actress is excited to be back on our screens as Gladys in the new Mzansi Magic Xhosa drama Isikizi.

“She’s a typical village woman who owns a catering business and does not have a family of her own,” she explains.

The drama, shot in Cape Town, mostly features local actors. It pains Andrea that Capetonian talent has to seek greener pastures in Johannesburg.

“It’s a sad situation and I am hoping that after Isikizi, producers will realise the amazing talent that we have here,” says the actress who is best remembered for her role in the SABC2 sitcom Stokvel.

In an industry where most actors fade away all too quickly, Andrea has managed to stay relevant and credits this to the respect she has for her craft.
