You just cannot be part of the music industry - Zakes

Musician and music executive Zakes Bantwini says he would like to take his music to a level where it is so good that he will be regarded as the 'Nelson Mandela of music'.

Zakes says he believes being an artist is about innovation and bringing something new. "Young people who say they just want to be 'part' of the music industry, I'd say you're in the wrong industry. You just cannot be part of the music industry. You want to be an innovator and someone who's bringing something new in this industry," Zakes explains in Nicky Greenwall's book I'm Famous in South Africa.

Zakes adds that his dream is to have a legacy in music just like that one of the late legendary Nelson Mandela. "I want to be the Nelson Mandela of music. I know someone who's not thinking about what I'm saying, they'll probably laugh," Zakes says in the book.
