I'm just the guy next door

A silver Mercedes-Benz glides up into Investment Cars, a top-end dealership in Bryanston.  Clutching a BlackBerry to his ear, he steps out of the car. Suddenly, nearby workers recognise him and scurry over for a photo opportunity.

Rantebeng Makapan (30), the man who plays Thomas on Generations – the ruthless son of tough businessman Kenneth Mashaba – couldn’t be more different from his character on the small screen.

“This is the kind of car Thomas would drive,” he laughs, walking towards a black Porsche.

“I’m just a simple guy with big dreams. Contrary to what people think, I’m no snob. People hear the way I speak and see Thomas on TV and instantly assume I’m well-off – but I’m just the guy next door. The other day I decided to take a taxi and the people were so shocked, thinking that I don’t have a car,” he chuckles.
