Economic Freedom Fighters' President Julius Malema admitted that the party's support for Busisiwe Mkhwebane as public protector was a "terrible mistake".

Malema was speaking on Monday at the party's media briefing in Johannesburg on their plan of action for 2017.

Political analyst Somadoda Fikeni weighed in on what he thought about some of the decisions Mkhwebane has made since taking office.

He said, “It will be hard for her to follow Thuli Madonsela after her hard word. It will be hard for her to deal with Thuli’s leftovers.”

There has been criticism from political parties such as the EFF, that Mkhwebane is protecting government and Malema has gone as far as calling her a “Gupta agent”.

“There is no one that she is necessarily protecting, she should rather work with the ANC not protect them. The public must know the truth about what the ANC is doing or planning to do,” Fikeni adds.

He says Mkhwebane is working hard to prove her worth and that she can be better than Madonsela.

“She needs to be authentic and be herself that is what we want to see.”

Is she as tough as Madonsela?

“For now it’s hard to tell because she has not yet been exposed to real tricky cases, she hasn’t proved herself as a tough public protector and she has to be creative.”
