Joburg man arrested with R1.5m drugs

A man was arrested after he was found with the drug "cat" with an estimated street value of R1.5 million in Springs on the East Rand, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

A man was arrested after he was found with the drug "cat" with an estimated street value of R1.5 million in Springs on the East Rand, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Wednesday.

"The 34-year-old male suspect was arrested when a shoe box full of cat was found in a cupboard at his place," said Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago in a statement.

The metro police's tracing unit acted on a tip-off from concerned residents.

Eight tennis-ball sized plastic bags filled with the drug were confiscated at around 8am in Pollak Park.

The Nigerian man was charged with possession and dealing in illicit substances and would appear in the Springs Magistrate's Court soon.
