Jub Jub and co-accused released from jail

The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed in a statement that hip hop musician Molemo "Jub Jub Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Shabalala have been released on parole on Thursday morning.

The Department of Correctional Services has reportedly confirmed in a statement that hip hop musician Molemo "Jub Jub Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Shabalala have been released on parole on Thursday morning.

"The parole placement of Katlego Molemo Maarohanye and Themba Shabalala as approved by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Boards (CSPBs) of Leeuwkop and Baviaanspoort with effect from 5 January 2017," spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said in a statement.

Maarohanye and Shabalala were charged with culpable homicide following a drag race accident with their Mini Coopers in 2010, leaving four school pupils dead and two with brain damages.

The two were initially handed 20 years for murder but their sentences were reduced to 10 years, two of which were suspended.

Maarohanye and Shabalala were later sentenced to four years in prison for two attempted murder convictions and another year for driving under the influence of drugs and racing on a public road.

The accident took place in Protea North, Soweto in 2010 March 8.
