A judge told a criminal he couldn't jail him because it was Thursday. Ryan Goss was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison for breaching a community service orderbut he was unable to be put behind bars at first because the cells at Worcester, south west England, are closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays as a result of cuts.

He then had to wait around for someone to take him to jail, during which time he had a cigarette, chatted to his friends on the phone and consumed a chocolate bar.

He said: "Last year, when I did a runner they couldn't catch me for four months and now they're putting all this trust in me.

"If it was a longer stretch there would be no chance I'd be waiting here."
