The traditional Tweede Nuwejaar Minstrel Carnival or Kaapse Klopse did not take place on Thursday in Cape Town as in the past.

The city says the date has been changed to Saturday, out of respect for the Muslim holy period that started on Thursday evening.

About 70 troupes, dressed in bright colours, will take to the streets on Saturday morning.

They will march from Kaizergracht along Adderley Street and end in the Bo-Kaap.The Carnival annually draws some 60 000 spectators.
