By day he plays a cocky newshound – a young man named Mangi who hits on anything wearing a skirt. But in real life all that Scandal! actor Kagiso

Modupe wants is to rush back to his West Rand home to be with his knockout wife, Liza (24), and his one-year-old daughter, Tshimollo.

“Fatherhood is a role I cherish,” he says as he cradles the bouncy baby. “For me it’s not a task, it’s a reward for ho itswara sharp

haka (my good behaviour). I’ve always wanted to be a father. It’s something I’ve worked towards.”

The 27-year-old even thinks his soapie character, Mangi, would be proud of him for being such a committed dad. “What people should realise is that Mangi’s a character who’s meant to teach people, so of course I identify with him in some areas.”

Kagiso’s house perches nicely in the leafy suburb of Roodepoort and is a world away from his former address in Brixton, Joburg. Almost everything here is child-friendly, from the homely full-sized rooms to the expansive garden.

“We moved here a year ago,” he says. “I had to break down walls and redo the floors and bathrooms. So I’ve been broke. Daddy’s broke! But really, Brixton’s not child-friendly.

There are too many parties. That’s why we had to come here.” Tshimollo, or Lolo as her mom calls her, was born on 14 November 2010 and is a real daddy’s girl. She looks just like her father, especially her ears.
