A new twist in the shooting has risen while rapper Khuli Chana remains shaken after being shot and wounded by the police.

While rapper Khuli Chana remains shaken after being shot and wounded by the police, and a new twist in the shooting has risen.  A police officer was arrested on Monday for kidnapping and extortion.

The officer was a detective from Silverton, Pretoria, police say.  The officer is believed to part of the kidnappers who demanded a ransom from the victim's family.

"Police have launched a manhunt for five other suspects who were involved in the kidnapping. The police officer will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court within 48 hours," Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said.

The arrested detective was found in possession of a fake police appointment certificate and unlicensed firearm. On Monday, a case of attempted murder was being investigated against the police who shot Chana. ANC spokesperson on Police in Parliament, Annelize van Wyk, has commended the Gauteng police for laying attempted murder charges against their own officers. She said, if images in the media are true, then the police officers allegedly aimed to shoot at the window of Chana's vehicle and not the tyres, and this must be addressed urgently.

“It cannot be okay and we want to welcome the fact that police have opened cases against the police officers. It's a sad incident,” van Wyk said.

An internal police investigation is underway.

Chana was shot while police from Bedfordview, Johannesburg, were tracking kidnappers and mistook Chana's luxury sedan for that of the kidnappers.
