King Mswati chooses 18-year-old beauty pageant finalist as 15th wife

The King to the only absolute monarch in Sub-Saharan Africa, King Mswati III announced Sindiswa Dlamini as his new liphovela (royal fiancée).

"I can confirm that the king has introduced to the nation a new liphovela," said Ludzidzini palace governor Timothy Mtetwa.

Sindiswa who was chosen to be the 15th wife was selected amongst thousands of Swazi maidens at annual Reed Dance held a month ago.

The 18-year-old who only completed her high school in Mbabane's St. Francis High School last year, is also a Miss Cultural Heritage beauty pageant finalist with the winner to be announced at the end of September.

The teen will be placed at one of King Moswati’s palaces and will only be crowned queen when she falls pregnant.

She will then join a long list of other Swazi queens. In previous years, other wives have fled the royal household, including Queen LaMagwaza, Queen LaHwala, Queen LaDube and Queen LaGija.
