King Goodwill Zwelethini has added R2-million to his R54-million budget for his projected expenditure for this year.

King Goodwill Zwelithini has added R2-million to his R54-million budget for his projected expenditure for this year. Times Live reports that the Zulu monarch was given the extra money by KwaZulu-Natal finance MEC, Belinda Scott, yesterday and this comes less than three months after he paid R10 000 on his birthday cake and R120 oo0 on cutlery and crockery for the event. The Royal Household Trust was set up for the king in place of the royal household department so that he could be more self-sufficient but it is reported that he still benefits from both sources. In December last year the king asked for a R10-million bailout as the trust had become bankrupt and Sunday Times reported that he could not buy groceries for his household which includes 27 children and six wives. The monarch's expenditure has included allowances for all of his wives which include a R31 000 stipend, R6 500 for groceries, R4 550  for medical benefits and R2 400 as a cellphone allowance. In February last year, R2.8-million was spent on regalia for the opening of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature that took place in June. And an estimated amount of R1,3-million was spent on his wedding to Zola Mafu on July 28 last year. The Royal Household's former CEO, Njabulo Buthelezi, had also allegedly been asked to "sign off expenses that were outside the mandate of the trust" while he was still in office.

In the future, the king's budget is projected to amount to R63-million in 2017.
