They say charity begins at home and no one knows this better than Isibaya actor Mdu Gumede: he brought joy to the residents of Westville in Durban when he went door-to-door handing food parcels yesterday.

The Durban-born actor said it was encouraging to be able to do something like this "in my town, because sometimes we forget where we come from when we make it.”

Mdu was one of three KZN celebrities who decided to go back where they came from and bring Christmas cheer to those less fortunate than themselves.

DJ Zinhle went home to Kwamdakane, Newcastle to donated food parcels to children from her former school. Radio and television personality Pearl Thusi also did her share and handed out food parcels to underprivileged residents of her home town, Kwandengezi – more on their efforts in DRUM’s 24 December issue!
