Flamboyant American pop diva Lady Gaga launched her new album at the legendary Berlin techno club Berghain in Germany.

Lady Gaga launched her new album at the legendary Berlin techno club Berghain, where she performed into the early hours of Friday wearing black lingerie, a red cape and a striking Salvador Dali-style mustache.

The flamboyant American pop diva sang tracks from her forthcoming third album, Artpop, after a question-and-answer session with fans.

"I am so excited to be here," she said to the crowd. "Germany has always inspired me."

The performance marked Lady Gaga's return ahead of Artpop's November release. The 27-year-old took a pause following a hip replacement in February.

Some pop culture critics dismissed her performance at Berghain, a cavernous former power station known for its labyrinth of dark rooms, saying it signaled the end of a dance club known for going against the mainstream.

"Just like Paris Hilton ruined Amnesia in Ibiza, another vomit-inducing narcissist of the fake celebrity world has decided to ruin everything sacred in the scene we know and love," wrote the online magazine Club Planet.
