Ringo Madlingozi and his son Phila share their thoughts on the Idols SA backlash and the cutthroat music industry

It's a name that holds a lot of weight in the South African music industry.

Legendary Ringo Madlingozi is one of Mzansi's most renowned artists, with multiple awards bestowed on him, and now it seems like his eldest son is set to follow in his iconic footsteps.

But being born with a silver spoon in your mouth doesn't mean you have an easy path to tread. Just ask Phila Madlingozi.

Poor Phila has been making headlines - most of them negative - since he entered season 11 of Idols SA. He made it to the final 16, but many questioned whether his success had to do with his famous name than his musical talent.

Phila (25) is in the process of launching his career as a solo artist. He might have one of the country's top artists as his dad, but he also has big shoes to fill.
