Lupita Nyong'o has made it back to African soil for her new movie role

Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o has made it back to African soil to shoot a brand new movie.

Nyong'o, who was born in Mexico to Kenyan parents, has begun with the process of shooting the production in their neighbouring country, Uganda.

Hollywood last made contact with Uganda after filming the Oscar-winning movie Last King of Scotland starring Forest Whitaker in 2006.

Nyong'o's new gig is a Disney produced biopic which is set in Kampala's Katwe slum and is about a chess coach who helps his star pupil realise her dreams through the cerebral game.

The film, Queen of Katwe, will be directed by Bollywood director Mira Nair while the 12 Years a Slave star will be playing the protagonist's mother.
