A crocodile has killed a 29-year-old golfer in the Kruger National Park.

A crocodile has killed a 29-year-old golfer in the Kruger National Park, the Lowvelder newspaper reported on its website Thursday.

Skukuza police spokesman Warrant Officer Oubaas Coetzer said Jacques van der Sandt was attacked after he went for a swim with a friend in Lake Panic.

He was apparently visiting his parents who were in Skukuza on holiday and participated in a golf competition on Wednesday.

He was attacked by a crocodile said to be 3.9 metres long on Wednesday night around 11pm and dragged under water.

His body, with bite marks on the chest, was found by a field ranger, who also spotted the crocodile and shot it.

Coetzer said Van der Sandt entered the water at a bridge at the Skukuza Golf Club house's signature hole, number nine, which is played across Lake Panic.

He was with fellow golfers at the club house when he decided to go for a swim.

The crocodile was apparently spotted in the lake earlier in the day.
