In an interview with news agency Associated Press former president Nelson Mandela’s daughter Makaziwe Mandela opened up about her father’s  health.

In the interview the daughter of the former ANC leader said that Nelson Mandela was not talking and his only form of communication was moving his hand.

"It's the hand that he stretches out. It is the touching of the hand that speaks volumes for me,

“My dad has not been in good health over the past month. And he has good days and he has bad days," said Makaziwe to the news agency.

One of those bad days, according to Makaziwe was April 29, when Mandela appeared on television broadcast footage following a visit by President Jacob Zuma.  While SABC News reported that Mandela was in good spirit, the image showed a different story.

Makaziwe Mandela says that Nelson Mandela has lived fully and doesn't have any regrets about his life, " "He was not there as a father. He tried the best way that he could when he came out of jail.

"But you understand that my father came out of jail and was swallowed up even before he became president."
