Mandela funeral: Tutu unhappy with exclusion of Afrikaners

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has spoken out about the exclusion of Afrikaners in public events during the ten days of mourning former president Nelson Mandela.

According to a report by eNCA Tutu said in a statement that this was contrary to the Madiba’s motto of being inclusive.

The report said Tutu felt that leaders from the Dutch Reformed Church should have been part of the interfaith proceedings at the memorial and funeral services.

He apologised to the communities saying Mandela went out of his way to ensure Afrikaners felt part of the new nation.

Even though he felt that Mandela’s send-off was ‘fitting’, Tutu felt that the directing of the funeral programme should not have been limited to the ANC.
