The internet is reacting to the death of Madiba with hundreds posting condolences on social media spaces such as Facebook and Twitter.

Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey wrote:“One of the great honours of my life was to be invited to Nelson Mandela's home, spend private time and get to know him. He was everything you've ever heard and more – humble and unscathed by bitterness.”

“And he always loved to tell a good joke. Being in his presence was like sitting with grace and majesty at the same time. He will always be my hero. His life was a gift to us all” she said

Soul Singer Maxwell, who is currently in South Africa, wrote on his wall; “I love you like there no end in sight #mandelaforever”.

”"As a world leader who refused to accept injustice, Nelson Mandela’s courage helped change our entire world," Amnesty International said #mandela.

Banki Moon, the UN secretary-general, said on the same website: "I will never forget his selflessness and deep sense of shared purpose."

The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, reacted to Madiba’s death by saying: "We have all lost a hero. Madiba touched the lives of millions of children."
