Nelson Mandela’s funeral will be held on Sunday 15th December 2013 when he will be laid to rest in Qunu in the Eastern Cape.

Nelson Mandela’s funeral will be held on Sunday 15th December 2013 when he will be laid to rest in Qunu in the Eastern Cape province president Jacob Zuma announced.

Zuma also announced there will be 10 days of national mourning and Sunday, 8th of December as a national day of prayer and reflection.

The official memorial service will be held on Tuesday, 10th of December at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

From the 11th to the 13th of December, the remains of Mandela will lie in state at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where he served as the first President of the new democratic nation.

During this period, official memorial services will also be held in all provinces and regions throughout South Africa.

Mandela's funeral cortege will also travel through the streets of  Pretoria on three consecutive days, the government  is encouraging people to line the route.
