South Africans continue to show love for Mandoza, one of the country’s most loved Kwaito stars.

Radio stations have been playing his most popular hits throughout the morning with listeners calling in to send well wishes to his friends and family.

On Metro FM, DJ Somizi Mhlongo shared a memory of when he recently visited Mandoza in hospital and found him blind, yet optimistic.

“He told me he was going to perform at the SABC Thank You concert and I advised him not to,” he said.

Somizi says he warned Mandoza, real name Mduduzi Tshabalala, that the media can be harsh, but the kwaito star decided to go ahead with his appearance at the concert. Another Kwaito star, Doc Shebeleza described Mandoza as a fighter who had international acclaim, saying the song Nkalakatha is known in the UK, the US, across Africa and other parts of the globe. On social media, fans continue to share their sympathies, while radio listeners share their favorite Mandoza songs. Mandoza was suffering from brain cancer and it is believed that he died on his way to hospital on Sunday morning.
