Manyi planning 'professionals' forum

Former government spokesman Jimmy Manyi is at the helm of establishing a forum catering for "professionals" in the ANC, the Sowetan reported on Monday.

"The PPF (Progressive Professional Forum) aims to debunk the myth that the ANC is only for the uneducated and vulnerable masses," read an extract from its founding document which the Sowetan said it had in its possession.

The forum -- dubbed in its founding documents as a "professional grouping" -- would be launched next month.

Manyi told the newspaper that there were plans to launch the organisation.

"I can't deny that there are plans to start the organisation. But it would be a bit premature for me to comment now because we are still going through with [the] consulting phase," he said.

In its founding document, the PPF proposes that professionals contribute R20 a month, in order to be affiliated with it.

An extract from the document suggested the organisation wanted to "reassert the nonracial and non-xenophobic character of the ANC".

In August last year, Manyi ended his term as the CEO of government communications after his contract was not renewed.
