The question many people are asking is how could Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, who was convicted of four murders and sentenced to 25 years, afford expensive, high-profile lawyers when it was common knowledge his drug habit and arrest had almost bankrupted him.

Ike Motloung, lawyer to the rich and famous, defended Jub Jub until he no longer received payment. Then Rudi Krause, who successfully represented murder-accused Blue Bulls rugby player Bees Roux – who received a suspended sentence following the death of Tshwane Metro Police officer Ntshimane Mogale – stepped in.

Over a two-day period Krause charged Jub Jub an estimated R100 000 – and he will have to dig even deeper next year when his appeal is heard in February.

DRUM can reveal Jub Jub has made lucrative deals with among others long-time friend and admirer Rali Mampeule (32), an investor and co-founder of Phadima Group Holdings. He’s also an executive producer of the documentary about Jub Jub’s trial.

“Molemo signed the contract giving the documentary rights to Baxopath Media a year ago and was paid a hefty cheque for it. He has made a good deal,” explains Rali who was present for the entire duration of the during the trial.
