Metrorail double train crash at Denver station

Two trains coming from Pretoria were involved in a collision at the Denver train station near the Johannesburg CBD

A train accident in Johannesburg on Monday morning has left a communter dead and scores injured this morning. 702 reports that two trains coming from Pretoria were involved in a collision at the Denver train station near the Johannesburg CBD. Calling into John Robbie's show, a listener named John broke the news. "We just witnessed a train accident in Denver train station; I was in the shower, I heard a loud bang and when I came out, we saw that the train had hit the platform. It's across my house," said John as quoted by 702.co.za. The station went on to report that the number of those injured cannot be confirmed at the moment but has estimated that there have 90 injuries and no fatalities. The broadcaster also reported that it is not clear as to which train caused the crash but Metrorail ppokersperson Lilian Mofokeng says they are investigating the accident. "There's one train that has hit another from the back. Both trains were coming from Pretoria and we don't know why they would be in such close proximity to each other, but we are investigating," revealed Mofokeng to 702.

It is also reported that exact numbers of casualties can only be confirmed once the scene in Denver is cleared.
