The eight policemen found guilty of murdering Mozambican taxi driver Mido Macia will be sentenced in the High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Last month, Judge Bert Bam found all eight acted in common purpose in handcuffing Macia to the back of a police van, dragging him behind it, and beating him up in the cells of the Daveyton police station on Tuesday, February 26 2013. He was found with his head in a pool of blood.

"There can be no doubt that they foresaw that the injuries could result in his death," Bam said in his judgment.

All of them lied to the court, Bam said. He rejected their claim that they did not know Macia was seriously injured and said he had suffered more "directed violence" than the officers had let on in their testimony.

The eight are Meshack Malele, 46, Thamsamqa Mgema, 35, Percy Jonathan Mnisi, 26, Bongamusa Mdluli, 25, Sipho Sydwell Ngobeni, 30, Lungisa Gwababa, 31, Bongani Kolisi, 27 and Linda Sololo, 56.
