THE high-profile couple had invited 250 people to their big day – but in true South African style about 700 people gathered at the gate to Ga Mothaga Resort in Atteridgeville, waiting for the bride and her entourage to arrive.

Muvhango actress Millicent Makhado was marrying Dr Simon Mothiba and everybody wanted to witness the happy event. The 29-year-old bride arrived right on time – at 9 am sharp – and was welcomed by voices swelling in harmony, Tshigombela (traditional Venda) dancers and the joyful ululation of guests dancing in the street. But Millicent wasn’t shocked by the crowds – she’d already catered for them by slaughtering an extra sheep and borrowing more chairs from her church.

“Two weeks ago a journalist from the Tshwane Sun wrote that everyone in the area was welcome to attend the wedding,” the gorgeous actress explains. “I know most couples may have been upset, but I’m very grateful to have so many people with whom to share this day. This is just another sign that our marriage will be blessed.”
