Miss Gay Jozi, brave enough to flaunt his sexuality

She strolls up to the DRUM car dressed in skinny jeans and a crop-top that exposes a flat, toned stomach. It’s hard to believe that beneath the make-up and flattering women’s clothes is a young man – and he’s got the Miss Gay Jozi 2014 title to prove it.

At the tender age of 19, Thabo Menu – whose stage name is Miss T – has already established himself in the competitive niche world of drag. He entered his first competition in September 2013 and has since entered seven different pageants around Gauteng.

“I was walking down the road one day when I was approached by Lisiba Mothibi, founder of Miss Gay Daveyton, and a week later I was crowned Miss Photogenic,” Thabo explains proudly. “Since then I’ve won second princess Miss Black Pride, Miss Simply Blue, Miss Gay Soweto and a few others…..”
