Twenty one-year-old Makhanani Chabalala from Chiawelo, Soweto has been crowned Miss Soweto 2013.

The dazzling event that celebrates black beauty was held at the New Soweto Theatre.

It was attended by many including former Miss Soweto Augustine Masilela and Basetsana Khumalo.

Ecstatic Makhanani says winning the title means a lot.

“I will be more responsible and leading by example to other young girls who look up to me.”

Not only is Miss Soweto just a pretty face, she’s doing her third-year in Bcom Accounting at the University of Johannesburg.

Tsakane Magwani was crowned 1st princess with Matsepo Kgoadi winning 2nd runner up.

Meanwhile Leonard Sithole founder of Miss Soweto for the past 35 years has passed on the barton to his son Collin.

“It’s been a long hard journey for me, I want Collin to do better than me,” said Sithole senior.
