Comedy. With VINCE VAUGHN, KEVIN JAMES and CHANNING TATUM.

Director: Ron Howard. 13LSV. Opens 21 March.

What’s it about?

Two best friends find themselves in a difficult situation when one discovers the other guy’s wife is cheating on him.

Who will enjoy it?

Guys who feel there aren’t enough films about blood brothers. It’s a theme Hollywood usually makes fun of, such as in Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups, but under the strong direction of Ron Howard this otherwise ordinary movie about infidelity becomes a boxing match of male temperaments. These guys would walk through fire for each other but aren’t ready to take responsibility for the emotions that come with friendship – and after 20 years of partying it’s time to grow up. Ronny (Vaughn) sees Geneva (Winona Ryder) the wife of Nick (James) kissing hunky Zip (Tatum). An intense examination of relationships, friendships and the nature of honesty follows. What sets the film apart is the surprisingly sober performances by two actors who are usually seen in superficial comedies in which their characters are the butt of the joke. And Tatum’s turn as a playboy is a highlight.

Popcorn fact

*The idea for the film came about when Ron Howard and a group of actors were talking about what would happen if one of them were to see his wife kissing another man.
