Moving ‘wedding day’ for sick dad and his daughter

Walking down the aisle with their daughters is a highlight for many fathers, a way of being part of a milestone day in her life. American dad Jim Metz (62), who’s terminally ill with pancreatic cancer, thought he’d never share the experience with his 11-year-old daughter, Josie. But then a special group of people stepped in to make Josie’s dream day a reality.

Thanks to a photographer with a heart of gold, Lindsey Natzic Villatoro, Jim and Josie were able to create a shared memory. They organised a “wedding ceremony” during which Josie – in a beautiful white lace dress – was able to walk down the aisle on her father’s arm. Her hair and make-up had been done and she carried a pink-and-white bouquet. There was even a wedding ring for Josie to wear.

When Josie heard about the idea (on the day of the “wedding”, which also happened to be her birthday) she was initially overwhelmed, Natzic Villatoro says. “She needed a moment. Later she said, ‘This is the best day of my life.’ She was very happy and excited to have these moments.”

Take a look here at the moving photographs taken by Lindsey Natzic Villatoro.
