A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Mahlabathini, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) for allegedly killing four people including his father and injuring four others.

It is alleged that the suspect was in a family meeting with his father discussing their cattle at their home in Dlebe area in Mahlabathini on Friday. When they had a misunderstanding, his father called neighbours to come and listen to what his son was saying.

During the meeting, the suspect allegedly took out a gun and shot everyone in the house. Four people including his father died on the scene and the other four were seriously injured. The suspect fled the scene but he was later arrested. He is expected to appear at the Mahlabathini Magistrates Court soon, facing four counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder.

A 9mm pistol with one live round was recovered by the police and it will be taken to ballistic tests to check id it was used in any other crimes in the country. KZN police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said, “I strongly condemned such senseless attack that led to the killing of innocent people. I appeal to the community to solve their differences peacefully rather than to attack each other.”
