No division in EC: ANC

The ANC in the Eastern Cape has rejected reports that the party in the province is divided over its support of national leaders.

"We are disturbed and feel violated by consistent untruth and lies [being] peddled," provincial ANC spokesman Mlibo Qoboshiyane said in a statement on Monday.

"Journalists and their newspapers [are] projecting our conferences as having been divided between comrades allegedly supporting President Jacob Zuma and against those supporting his deputy comrade Kgalema Motlanthe."

The ANC has been holding regional elective conferences across the country.

According to reports, two regions in the Eastern Cape had already been won by anti-Zuma candidates.

In February, Sandile Sello was elected chairman of the Alfred Nzo region, and former Buffalo City mayor Zukiswa Faku won the Greater East London region.

Amathole and OR Tambo regions of the Eastern Cape would hold their elections at the end of the month and the rest in May.

Qoboshiyane said the Alfred Nzo region's new leadership was fully behind all structures of the ANC including national leadership.

"Not a single thread of truth suggests a divided conference except that some delegates protested against certain decisions, disputes on credentials and allegations on accreditation of some branches," he said.

Buffalo City concluded its conference earlier this month in an "environment of orderliness, discipline and unity with delegates behind the unity of the ANC", said Qoboshiyane.

There was no Mangaung division.

"The credentials of the elected leadership best demonstrate [the] ideological position of this elected executive.

"Once again a glory of disinformation campaign surfaced in the print media aimed at further projecting the ANC as divided along the lines the Mangaung (sic)," said Qoboshiyane.

He said the character assassination of the ANC could not continue.

"If journalists have no political stories to write about the ANC, they must call us, we have stories in abundance."
